Field Fragments: Backlit Spiderweb Season

My most geeky fun this week involved exploring fens—stay tuned for my Friday post on that topic. In contrast, the most beauty involved backlit spiderwebs, either dewy like the one above…
…backlit by the setting sun like this lucky catch…
…or being picked apart by fledgling Red-winged Blackbirds (who I’m pretty sure were stealing insect dregs while waiting for a parent to drop by with fresher food).
On the arachnid note, this video does include a Harvestman (Daddy-long-legs) plus Water Striders (which are bugs instead of spider-relatives). But it’s really just a distillation of what it feels like to be out early on a gorgeous summer morning.
